If you take a really close look at this "light fixture"...
You'll appreciate just how ugly it is.
As part of our mini mudroom makeover, I'd like to come up with a low cost solution for replacing/disguising/accepting our only source of light in the mudroom. You'll notice that the pull chain, external wiring & socket presents somewhat of a challenge. It is going to be hard to simply replace it with an ordinary wall sconce.
Any ideas?
Or should I just give that jumbo lightbulb a good spring cleaning and accept it for what it is?

What about just replacing it for now with one of those old school Edison type light bulbs- I think those are so cool looking.
How about you DIY/adapt a lampshade by keeping the wire inside which you'd plop over a smaller bulb and then cut the lampshade on the wall side so it can slide over and fit? You'd have to measure for the right sized shade and because it's high up and visible you could camouflage the damage by lining it with pretty wallpaper?
Second idea; Take out the bulb, insert a plug adapter. Get a chandelier type fixture with a plug in wire (IKEA), plug it in and hang it off a hook on the ceiling, letting it hang over the plugged in section.
There are some fun outdoor lights that you can pick up for a reasonable price - would something like that work?
I like the pull chain and metal scratched up base. What about converting a wire basket into a shade with a cool looking bulb?
Oh, I like figuring out how to have a hanging pendant light like Guilia above .... that is the first thing that came to mind!! Take care, Caroline
I actually like it so I vote spring cleaning!
Hello! I'm visiting your blog for the first time today, so since I haven't read other posts, I'm not sure of your style. BUT, I have a light almost exactly like that in the kitchen, with painted over base and all. I plan to replace the white globe with a tranparent glass one -- for six bucks -- then put a filament bulb in so it has an industrial look. All you would need to do is replace the pull cord. I think it would look way cool. Pottery Barn was my inspiration.

Can't get much cheaper than that!
Such good ideas! Not sure I have much to add, except that I am dying to see which one you go with. And the PB-like one seems the easiest, no?
I'm coming back to look that the globe is really a large light bulb. Sorry I didn't catch that the first time! Why not just put a filament in and call an industrial day?

I'm looking forward to the makeover update!

Is it wierd that I kind of like the fixture?
