Memory Lane: The Exterior of Our Old Home

A year ago this week, Chris and I made the exciting (but scary) decision to put our house on the market to pursue our current home on Hazard Ave. Thinking about what we were doing a year ago has gotten me feeling nostalgic for our old home and all the work we accomplished on it.

This is what the exterior of our old house looked like when we moved in.

The first order of business was to have those monstrous looking shrubs removed! This not only improved the curb appeal, but flooded the main floor with afternoon sunlight. Soon after, Chris risked his life on a ladder to hang the shutters.

The following Spring, my Dad painted the front door red.

A few years later, we had the whole house painted. You'll also notice the window boxes that Chris installed, and the new window on the far left of the house.

Finally, here's the photograph that was used for our listing. By now, the shrubbery had grown in. We also removed the awkwardly placed rhododendrons and planted new flowering pear trees.

Reminiscing the transformation of our old house's exterior has gotten me excited about the changes we've yet to make in our current home on Hazard Ave, like new paint, roof, & exterior lighting. It can only look better from here!

Wow! You all did an amazing job....it was fun to see the pictures in order of what you did! I will post more about this once we close- but we recently bought a house (instead of going ahead with remodeling the one we are in)...and it is such a great home-- but needs some painting on the outside and landscaping like you all did here-- can't wait to share! Take care, Caroline

Aww, memories...I can still picture Harry & Georgia sitting in the den window :) Can't wait to see what's coming up next at the Hazard house!

For years I've been saying that I wanted to live in a gray house with a red door someday. Your former home was BEAUTIFUL! Will you be showing us the interior as well?

BTW, we moved memorial weekend 7 years ago, those anniversaries make you nostalgic, don't they? Sometimes we drive past the old house to see if they've changed anything. It's always nice to see that the couple who bought our home take such good care of it.

Those shrubs! Yikes! Love the gray with the red door. We have a white house but it's sided so we can't paint it :( but my husband is also planning on risking his life to hang shutters for a little more color. :)

That is one helluva transformation...definitely something to be proud of! I think I probably would've had a hard time giving that one up, but after seeing your new powder room, I think I could definitely be convinced to move (c:

Great job! I'm so impressed. When I saw the first pic I thought, "What a cute house!" After seeing the work you did on it the first pic now looks drab and cluttered.
I look forward to seeing the work you do on your new house!

It would have been really really hard for me to leave this house...beautiful!

All the changes you made to the house certainly made it more comely. It's kind of sad that you're leaving it, although I guess circumstances are just more favorable elsewhere. I hope the buyer sees this transformation!

The shrub removal made your house look more spacious and appealing. You did great on your house project! We also got our door repainted red because we think a red door would make our white exterior look more inviting. BTW, I can't wait to see your new house!

It is hard to let go of something that you have invested so much time in that it has grown on you. Each transformation symbolizes a part of your family story, which makes it harder to give up. But things must be done. And I'm interested to see the exterior of your new home.
