Thanks to everyone who offered their advice for my propagating hydrangea. I decided to try potting some indoors and planting some outside to see which method best survives winter.
Good luck! One tip...for the ones outside I think you should cut off the flowers and just leave a few leaves on so that most of the energy goes to the roots. Hope they all take!
If that outside one grows, we are no longer blog friends. :P Or you have to come over and personally tend to my hydrangeas with your super hydrangea powers.

Keeping my fingers crossed for your pretty hydrangea. They are so beautiful when they bloom in the summer!
You will have to report back in the spring!
I love that pretty turquoise pot! I need something turquoise-y in my house.

Thanks for the tip, Amy. Heading outside right now to take care of it!
The one in the pot looks very happy and healthy right now!
fingers are crossed for you!
It will be interesting to see what happens! :)
Hmm, waiting for spring to see what happens!
I have a hydrangea bush too and I love it. Hope your new plants survive the winter.
Keeping my fingers crossed for you!
I was going to say the same thing as Amy. Such a smart idea to do both!! I would never have thought to split them up.
