Shopping for Inspiration

Last weekend was one of the first weekends in a long time that Chris and I were able to relax and have some fun instead of working on the family room. It was so nice! While we were out having lunch, I made Chris go with me to one of my favorite home stores, Butterfield, where I saw this Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams chair.
I can't remember the price exactly, just that it was 20% off expensive.

I told Chris that they'll look just amazing in our someday dining room...

Sorry, I don't have a source for these images...anyone know?
To which he replied that upholstered dining chairs just aren't practical because of food stains.
I told him they are very practical for people who don't spill food while they are eating. Duh!

In the event that we don't win the lottery before we renovate our dining room, we'll be choosing a less expensive chair.
Like this $239 version from the Home Decorator's Collection.
Here's another option. $299.

This $219 version would work also. Especially since there's a turquoise fabric option available.

This one has a great pull ring on the back like in the inspiration photo. $149.

Or this one from Ballard Designs ($578-$815 depending on fabric choice).
Too bad the dining room reno is at the bottom of our list of priorities.
Then again, that gives me plenty of time to sell Chris on the idea of upholstered chairs...

And you can sell him on having the fabric treated so it's stain resistant! LOve the look of all the chairs upholstered. I like the hardware on the back of your inspiration photo too. Have a great weekend, Carrie!

You definitely found some nice alternatives to the expensive MG & BW chair. You never know, you might win the lottery while you're renovating the rest of the house. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Love that chair!!!! I just picked up (and wrote @) a chair for $20. I'm hoping to recover it in a distressed/patterned blue velvet (to hide wear). You should check out decorator Tobi Fairley's blog. Quite often she uses laminated fabrics on her seat cushions - especially when there are kids in the house. It's tastefully done when using the right style chair and fabric.

Everyone always worries about kids and upholstered chairs. I worry about my husband.

They look pretty though!

Ya, I agree that you can make it work with stain resistant fabric. I like the chairs with the "Knockers" on the back. Very cool! Good luck in you attempt to change your husband's mind.

I also love the look of upholstered chairs!! When I was looking, I remember the chairs at Home Dec. Coll. were supposed to have a durable fabric for cleaning. Maybe it would clean up the spills well! best of luck on selling the idea! :)

That Mitchell & Gold chair is AMAZING! Don't forget to check out Homegoods/TJ Maxx! We got our upholstered dining chairs for $70 each! I practically grabbed them and RAN to the cash register I was so excited. :)

Great direction you are thinking! I have the first Home Decorator chair at my desk. The fabric is a little thin. Have you seen the West Elm ones in pale grey leather? Easier to clean (might have an easier time selling to Chris).

Love your inspiration chairs! The color is SO very pretty! You can always think about adding a pull to the back of one of the other chairs. Courtney over at A Thoughtful Place did that with her (wood) dining room chairs.

Sorry, I agree with Hubby! My kids have eliminated upholstered chairs and white from my home. I do love the look though!!

I bought those upholstered chairs from the Ballard outlet and I'm so paranoid that someone is going to get something on them. We dont have kids yet, but I'll seriously hate myself if it's me. They all look like great choices to me!
