I've been there!
Turns out that these pictures are from the very same home that Chris and I toured during an open house when we were visiting San Francisco last May!
Seems the homeowners have been doing some redecorating because here's what the room looks like now (photos from the real estate listing).

I keep going back and forth between the two to try and pick out what has changed and what they've kept the same.
Which do you like better?

Wow, that is a huge change. I kind of like the first way better.
I like them both, but prefer the first one. The second's "beachy" feel doesn't seem to fit with the more traditional architecture.
I was going to ask you the same question! and I can't believe my answer - despite my love for everything blue I like the first version better, it's got a bit more punch and personality. I do like the cushions in the second one, but they are too matchy...I think they should have layered pattern.
I'm a major fan of brown and not a major fan of "beachy" (the word someone above used), so I'm definitely going with the first one.
I'm definitely on Team First One. I think the beachy look doesn't quite vibe as well with a Victorian and the first one is just so classic that seeing the second one after that is a bit jarring, at least it was for me.
I think I like the original better! It's so cozy!
I like the moodiness of the brown walls in the before.

You scared me with your first sentence. I thought you were working on ANOTHER room in your house.
I like the blue room better, but without the pillows. They throw the room off for some reason.
How fun and so ironic! I much prefer the first original look better. The second looks a little too fussy to me.
Ooh, that's a tough one. I actually like elements of both. They really went from one extreme to the other didn't they?
I love the dramatic colors in the first - it certainly is different and has that "wow" factor. The second is very pretty but more predictable, a little too blue-and-white for me. That fireplace/mantle calls for a bolder color for it to stand out - perhaps they wanted to step away from that. It's mostly a change of paint with slipcovered couches and changing up of artwork.
What?! That's crazy that you actually saw this place. Although they're both lovely I prefer the latest homeowners design, kinda a sucker for dark walls and clean white contrast :)
I like bits and pieces from both! I have to say that the second set of pics makes the room look much bigger and more light... I don't love the blue but I like it more than the brown.
Definitely the first! Ugh, I kinda despise the second one. It feels cheaply done and its so lacking in sophistication and depth. Then again, I like my rooms a little on the dark and cozy side, some I'm biased! How funny that the homeowners went for such a drastic change!
I LOVE the brown walls...fun to see the two versions! The brown is very rich and elegant!
The living room in the fourth photo is awesome!!! the color of the wall is gentle to the eyes and also the furniture's too... it is like having a vacation in your own house
Beautiful floor! I absolutely love it.

Can't believe this is the same room. I know the HB one well. My mouth hit the floor when I first saw it. I love a light airy room usually, but I think I like the original better. Dying to know, which do you like better?

I read your blog daily but have not left a comment until now. Thanks for the tour of your home and so many others. It inspires me as I work in my own home to create a sense of beauty, comfort and harmony. I appreciate all you do to share with us.
Well, I am obviously in the minority! I like the latter color - more light, cheery and I can see people gathering comfortably. I think both honor and complement the details to the room - having picture railing - I love that they still use them!
Thank you for sharing - quite thought provoking!

Okay, now *that* is a fun game!!! It's like "I Spy" for design loving grown ups (c: I'm definitely loving it...
Whadayaknow? I would definitely NOT have noticed that they are the same room. Though I like some of the new decor and the blue pillows, I definitely like the old version better. Without a doubt. It seems much more cozy and collected.
Definitely the brown is my favorite.
